It takes more than one to be one.

My parents are awfully cute these days. For instance, they like to have candlelight dinners when us kids aren't home. They go to Chicago for dates on their own. They work out together at the gym almost everyday. And the latest cute thing, they wore matching USA shirts and hats for the 4th of July.

Momma and Poppa Tran will be married 33 years this coming Friday. Though they've had many rough patches, I've been so blessed to have been able to witness what a couple growing and centered in Christ is like. They have changed considerably, the parents that I had 10 years ago are definitely not the same parents I have now (in a good way). What I love is how they are so visionary, always wanting to serve the Lord together. I love how they talk and plan about their next adventure. And I love how they truly cherish one another's company.

My dad told me last weekend, "I depend on two things: on the Lord first and foremost, and I depend on your mom second." And I began thinking... that statement reminded me what it means to be in unity or one. In marriage, husband and wife are united in a covenant with God, representing the relationship between the Church and Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:23). In the Trinity, the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are in perfect, harmonious relationship with one another in unity. And in the whole body of Christ, we are united in one in Christ Jesus, for "there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).

"It takes more than one to be one."

I thank You for using my parents to show me what love is like in a marriage. I thank You for demonstrating Your perfect love through Jesus Christ so that we can be reconciled and united together with You. I thank You for the body of Christ, and that it doesn't matter what race, socioeconomic class, young/old, male/female, etc., we are all One. It's truly beautiful.
