Love and two bags of garbage.

I have a wonderful story to tell. This is not my first time writing about my grandparents, but because their relationship is absolutely adorable and admirable, I can't help but share yet another moment in their lives.

It was the day of my Ong Ngoai's (maternal grandpa) birthday celebration. They planned a little blast at their local "nursing home"... though they don't live in a nursing home. (I think many of their friends stay at this "nursing home.") After a night of celebration and festivities, they were about to call it a night and leave, when my wonderful Ba Ngoai (maternal grandma) realized that she had left her dentures somewhere. Now, I have no idea why my grandma would take out her dentures, because usually, she feels socially embarrassed without them on. So, either she was very comfortable with her friends, or they were bothering her. Anyhow, Ba Ngoai forgot her dentures, so my loving grandpa came to the rescue.

He went back into the building and searched up and down the place for her dentures. No luck. But my grandpa is not one to quit, and so he had a hunch that it might've been put into the garbage. Logically the next step was to haul two bags of garbage that was collected throughout the evening into the car. Yes. Two bags of garbage was brought home.

Home with two bags of trash in their room. I can imagine my grandmother sitting at her chair, while my grandpa is deducing in his mind how he was going to tackle the bags. So, my grandpa with unconditional love for my grandma, he accepted the challenge with determination. Lo and behold, he found her dentures. They were both so excited, they called my parents and shared this hilarious story.

My grandparents relationship have always made me smile. Yes they squabble here and there, but ultimately, their love for Christ and for each other is real and evident. They pray together; they hook arms when they walk together; they serve their community together. After over what 60 some years, my grandpa never ceased loving his wife, even if it meant going through garbage to find her dentures. He wanted to find it for her, not because he had to :) And my grandmother too, she had to quit her some of her  favorite hobbies of swimming and shopping, so she can be with my grandpa under chemo, sitting by his bedside and caring for his needs. It makes me tear to see how sweet they are, because their love reminds me how much Christ loves me and His people.

That is what human relationship are for, to point us to Jesus Christ. The giver of unconditional, everlasting, true love - a love that will never fail.
