"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline" (Proverbs 1:7)
- Knowledge does not come from the fear of people, but from the fear of the Lord. To fear God means to humble myself before God and to realize that I am foolish. It is an acceptance of the fact that I need wisdom that comes from God alone.
"My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them" (Proverbs 1:10)
"These men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves! Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the lives of those who get it" (Proverbs 1:18-19)
- Watch myself so that I do not lead others into sin. Know that there are consequences to my actions. By ambushing others, "they set an ambush for their own lives." (ESV, Proverbs 1:18)
"For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear or harm." (Proverbs 1:32-33)
- A sense of urgency to have wisdom. Wisdom gives us sagacity during storms, disasters, and troubles.
